Concrete Slab Inspection is the most important inspection during building construction as this is where the entire load is applied. Thus, to thoroughly and carefully inspect your concrete material based on the required specifications, ABEN Technical Services provides Concrete Slab Inspection using the latest equipment to measure concrete slab thickness; location, distribution, size, and spacing of the reinforcing material; concrete cover depth measurement; determination of internal voids or cracks; as well as measuring the compressive strength.
Electrical Resistivity
In order to determine the corrosion susceptibility of a reinforced concrete exposed to a particular environment, Surface Electrical Resistivity is measured using a Four-Point Wenner Probe. Through this non-destructive test, an indication of the corrosion rate can be determined, likelihood of corrosion can be assessed, areas susceptible to chloride penetration can be identified, and the wet and dry regions in a concrete structure can be located.
Ground Penetrating Radar
Objects, voids, cracks, and any activity taking place beneath pavements or structures can now be assessed with the use of a Ground Penetrating Radar. This equipment is based on the principle of measuring the time taken for radio signals to be transmitted and reflected from objects underneath the surface, which gives an indication of its size, depth and location. Various GPR systems with different frequencies are also available to suit your needs, depending on the size and depth of the object to be located as well as the dielectric properties of the structure.
Some of the applications of this technique include mapping of reinforcing material (location, distribution, size and spacing), rebar concrete cover depth measurement, hole drilling without hitting a rebar, layer identification, and layer thickness measurement for multilayer structures.
Anchor Testing
Anchor systems in concrete structures are mainly used for lifting or securing objects in place. To be able to verify the load capacity of the base material as well as to check for the quality and safety of the installed anchor systems, non-destructive on-site Proof Load Testing can be performed using an Anchor Tester. With this equipment, specific test loads can be applied on various head forms in different diameters; and with this technique, compliance to pre-determined resistance values of the base material can be verified.
Compressive Strength
When it comes to safety purposes, determining the load–bearing capacity and durability of concrete structures is of utmost importance to structural engineers. With this, ABEN Technical Services provides onsite testing of concrete structures to determine the material’s compressive strength using state-of-the-art Concrete Test Hammers. Up to 100 MPa, compressive strength as low as 5 MPa for thin concrete section can still be measured, and accurate measurements can also be taken on confined test areas regardless of its orientation.
Concrete Coating Pull-Off Adhesion Test
Part of assessing a concrete structure’s performance properties is the measurement of its coating tensile strength. With ABEN Technical Services’ Pull-Off Adhesion Tester, the normal force required to pull the coating off the concrete substrate is accurately measured, and the fracture pattern is analysed to be able to determine the cohesive properties of the coating as well as the adhesion between the dolly and adhesive, adhesive and coating, coating layers, and coating and substrate.
